Summer 2000 Internship Opening
Location:
Health & Safety Department at Shell Deer Park Refinery near Houston,
Texas.
Description:
The intern will work in the Health & Safety Department with the staff
ergonomist to coordinate Ergonomics Team field assessments.
Duties will include measuring and documenting physical risk factors as
well as coordinating implementation of recommendations.
Assessments to be performed in various environments include:

Computer
workstations, controls, and displays in process control rooms
·
Hand-arm
vibration exposure estimates for maintenance personnel
·
Various
process operating tasks
·
Integrating
ergonomics factors into PC installation process
·
Development
of work hardening/stretching program for maintenance workers
·
Documentation
of valve operation parameters
Requirements:
Minimum Junior class standing in an Industrial Engineering, Safety,
Occupational Health, or related program with an emphasis on Ergonomics.
Minimum GPA requirement of 2.8. Interest
in identification and abatement of physical ergonomics risk factors in a field
setting.
