Title: Usability Specialist (or Junior
Human Factors Engineer)
Target Salary Range: $45,000 to $55,000
(depending on experience and academic
achievement)
Job Description: Focus will be on
end-to-end usability testing under the guidance
of one of our Senior Human Factors Engineers
(user research, screener development,
scenarios and questionnaire development,
moderating tests and gathering data,
analyzing data, preparing draft and final
reports) and maintenance of corporate
usability requirements archives.
Products/applications include office equipment
systems such as printers, fax, copiers, and
scanners, and associated web-based
customer support applications.
Usability Specialist
a.. Work with HFE's and other project team members as needed
to coordinate test
activities
b.. Interact with recruiting vendor to ensure that
appropriate participants are
recruited for scheduled test sessions;
c.. Create or compile test materials as needed, e.g., book to
copy, web page to
print
d.. Use testing and communication tools such as OCS
(Observational Coding
System), Excel, PowerPoint, Word
e.. Conduct test sessions and analyze subjective and
objective data
f.. Write test report and compile preliminary results and
conduct issues
meetings after tests; distribute and archive the
final report
Requirements: 1 - 2 years experience
outside of academia; strong communication
skills (oral and written), advanced degree (or
equivalent experience) in Psychology
or a related discipline, or a discipline that
includes some background in basic
research methods and statistics; ideally someone
with "human" research experience;
technical experience, particularly with printers
or computer peripherals of some
sort, is desired (and helpful) but not required.
