Summary of Job Duties
(Note: This summary will be used for keyword search)  Under direction the
Injury Prevention Specialist will plan, develop, and implement a
comprehensive injury illness prevention and near miss/accident
investigation program for the UCSB Facilities Department. Develops and
leads safety training efforts for department. Strong working knowledge of
the principles and practices of a safety and occupational health program,
ergonomics and/or risk management.

Participate in Daily Accident/Injury Prevention Program Development, implements and
directs a campus-wide accident investigation program with special emphasis
on Facilities Management. Investigates, reviews and prepares reports on all
injury and near miss claims for Facilities Management and other high risk
occupations. Written reports are submitted to Injury Prevention Program
Manager, Workers' Compensation Manager, Third Party Administrator and the
employee's department for review and remediation efforts. Analyzes
mechanisms of injury, meets with supervisor, injured employee and prepares
reports. Photographs accident site as necessary. Inspects equipment to
ensure safe working conditions, removes equipment from service as
necessary. Makes follow up visits to assist with remediation, repairs or
modifications to equipment or job site as necessary. Ensures employees wear
and utilize all appropriate safety equipment. Researches new equipment and
prepares recommendations for purchase to avoid future accidents and
minimize injuries. Works with employees on an individual basis to develop
safe working procedures and injury prevention strategies. Prepares and
submits monthly and annual reports to the Injury Reduction Committee and
campus management to track injury prevention efforts.
 

Daily Safety Training Program Develops and coordinates core health
and safety training activities for the campus with specific focus on high
risk occupations. Analyzes generic and unique training needs through job
hazard analysis for various job classifications; designs and implements
safety training programs to address specific population requirements;
assimilates technical training information and assists other Facilities'
Department and EH&S professionals with carrying out training activities.
Prepares reports and develops safety materials as necessary.
3 Yes 10 Monthly   Assists with the development of department safety
policies and procedures. Promotes safe working habits to managers,
supervisors and employees. Develops, promotes and coordinates annual safety
fair for Facilities staff.

Serves as a member of Departmental and campus safety committees.

Minimum Requirements  A Bachelors degree in safety or occupational health,
ergonomics or related field, or 2-3 years experience in a related field or
an equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent oral and
written communication skills with strong interpersonal communication
skills.


Desirable Requirements  Strong working knowledge of the principles and
practices of a safety and occupational health program, ergonomics and/or
risk management. Strong computer and data management skills.
Spanish/English bilingual or willing to take Spanish classes. Experience
coordinating safety and loss prevention programs on behalf of an employer
preferred.
