Design Research Internship at Symbol Technologies Inc.
 
We are presently looking for a student interested in a summer internship for the Industrial Design and Human Factors Dept. of Symbol. The position will immerse the student in various aspects of Human Factors/Ergonomics exploration, evaluation, and validation, as well as some aspects of human-computer interface design. Task analysis within actual end user environments, heuristic evaluation, and prototyping are just a few of the techniques that are used by our group. The devices we create cover a great range, from point of sale retail scanners to wearable computers. The student will work alongside the Chief Ergonomist and Human Factors Specialist, as well as the other members of the department. The position should prove to be a unique and valuable learning experience.
 
Various software programs are used, and experience in any of the following is very welcome: Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere and After Effects, Macromedia Director, Macromedia Flash
 
Preferably, the student would have experience researching one or more of the following areas: Point of sale (grocery, retail, food service, etc.), warehousing, package handling or delivery, transportation and logistics, backroom inventory, corporate work environments, hospitality, healthcare, education. However, no experience is necessary... just a thirst for knowledge, an open mind, and the drive to succeed.
