- 1,800 male naval personnel evacuated from their barracks after supper because of suspected toxic gas exposure
- 1,000 recruits developed at least one new symptom (cough, chest pain), 375 were evacuated by ambulance for further medical evaluation, and 8 were hospitalized
- No significant toxic gas exposure was measured and no medical investigators became ill
- Symptoms were associated with evidence of physical stress, mental stress, and awareness of rumors of odors, gases and/or smoke
